The DC Universe will be different than ever before! Rachel Brosnahan speaks on how Superman breaks the usual status quo of the comic book movie.
There’s been a lot of questions about Superman as the film inches closer and closer to release. Namely, how the project will be affected by being in an already existing DC Universe. Most of the time when Superman is around other heroes, he’s an already established entity, with the most recent take similar to this being Superman & Lois where he’s a dad. However, Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet are young, placing them in a very unique place in the franchise.
Rachel Brosnahan spoke a bit on this distinctive take on a DC Universe during a recent interview with Collider. The actress confirmed that, while their characters are young, the film won’t be serving as an origin story for the Man of Steel. Rather, Superman will thrust fans into a world full of romance, monsters, and very scary bald men, culminating in a take on the characters that fans haven’t seen on the silver screen before.
“I also love that this is not an origin story. We’ve seen the origin story done so well a number of different times, but we come into a world that already exists — Lois and Clark are working at the Daily Planet, monsters exist in Metropolis, Lex Luthor has LuthorCorp. We drop in at this point in their relationship that I’ve never seen before.”
Are Lois And Clark Dating In Superman?
That quote didn’t reveal too much that fans didn’t already know about the existing DC Universe, especially considering a giant kaiju was seen in the movie’s first trailer. However, it’s good to hear that Superman won’t be doing the “false” origin, where the film picks up just after the hero gets their powers where they’re trying to find their footing. Rather, it seems to focus more on the dynamic between Lois Lane and Clark Kent, and how that evolves throughout the events of the film.
“They’ve been together for about three months. And they’re asking some questions about the future of their relationship. They’re not sure if this is something that was just a really great fling or something that could be forever, and they have really opposite worldviews, and they bump up against each other that way. So, it was a really fun way into a familiar story.”
Seeing a version of Lois Lane and Clark Kent that are in love, but don’t know what the future holds is a very unique take that has seldom been seen in Superman media. Usually young takes on the couple have them first starting to date. This, combined with how many active heroes there are in the DC Universe, suggests that there may be a lot more surprises in store than many fans might have expected at first glance.
