Charlie Hunnam is set to grace the world of sci-fi once more in Zack Snyder’s take on Star Wars: Rebel Moon. However, according to the actor, he almost starred as Anakin Skywalker in a galaxy far, far away.
Rebel Moon is being hyped up as the sci-fi franchise finally able to compete with Star Wars. While reviews for Zack Snyder’s latest project haven’t been the best, fans seem to agree his casting for the film was on point. This includes Charlie Hunnam who, according to the actor himself, was considered to play Anakin Skywalker in the prequel trilogy:
“That is true, yeah. I had forgotten that until you said that,” Hunnam told Entertainment Tonight. “Years and years ago I met George Lucas. I got to the point where I was meeting George Lucas. I don’t think he meets a lot of actors, I think there were probably two, maybe three actors they were considering.”
“I don’t remember much about it. I remember that I was nervous, I was a little bit awkward and I remember walking out and thinking ‘Well, I’m definitely not getting that role.’ And I was correct. Sometimes it’s about the vibes.”
While Hayden Christensen is certainly getting love for his performance as Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars fans in the modern day, there was a time when the role was almost considered cursed because of how badly it hurt his reputation. It may have been for the best Charlie Hunnam missed out on the role, especially as Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon gives him the chance to step into the world once more.
