REPORT: ‘Gotham Knights’ Is The CW’s Cheapest DC Comics Series

Will the Gotham Knights survive?

Gotham Knights The CW

Gotham Knights has been a divisive show for fans and critics alike. However, the show’s cheap budget could keep it alive while other CW shows like Superman & Lois get cancelled.

The CW is going through a massive restructuring. Following its’ purchase by Nextstar, the network has slowly cancelled many of its scripted dramas like Winchesters and Kung Fu. The network reportedly only wants two scripted originals for the fall season. This has left fans worried about the fate of shows that haven’t been renewed, including Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights.

According to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, Gotham Knights is the least expensive DC Comics show that the CW has ever aired. While Superman & Lois nearly doubles the series’ viewership, it’s also much more expensive to make. Much of this is likely because, unlike Superman & Lois, there aren’t many aliens or truly anyone with superpowers in Gotham Knight, drastically cutting down the cost of post-production VFX work. This could lead to Gotham Knights surviving the cuts while Superman & Lois fails to get renewed for a new season, though no decision has been made yet.

A Death In The Family

The plot synopsis of Gotham Knights reads as follows: “In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.”

Written by Batwoman’s Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams, the series stars Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row, Misha Collins as Harvey Dent, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, and Rahart Adams as Brody.
