Disney finally convinced Robert Downey Jr. to come back as Iron Man! However, his return may not be as substantial as many fans might have hoped.
Everyone kind of knew deep down that Robert Downey Jr. wasn’t really done as Iron Man. Given how influential the character was on both his career and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was basically expected that he’d come back for a victory lap by the end of the Multiverse Saga. Once it was confirmed that RDJ would be playing a Doctor Doom variant, it seemed that announcement was just around the corner.
An announcement was certainly on the horizon. Just not one fans might have expected. During this year’s D23 expo, Disney unveiled a whole swathe of Marvel attractions coming to their theme parks, featuring some familiar faces from the MCU. Surprisingly, this also included Robert Downey Jr., who’ll be making his official return as Iron Man on the attraction Stark Flight Lab. The first photo of the attraction is below.
Marvel’s Heroes Are Headed To Disneyland
While Robert Downey Jr.’s official return as Iron Man was clogging up all the headlines about Disney’s new Marvel attractions, he’s far from the only MCU star making their way to the parks. The Avengers Infinity Defense, a ride about the Avengers stopping a multiversal Thanos, is opening alongside the Stark Flight Expo in California, with two new Spider-Man-focused attractions being built in international markets.
While Marvel’s complicated theme park rights prevent these new attractions from making their way to Disney’s East Coast parks, it’s nice to see the MCU’s heroes getting a more substantial presence given the land’s lackluster opening selection. The only question left is how many yachts did Marvel have to give Robert Downey Jr. for him to return as Iron Man for a theme park ride!?
