Could Robert Downey Jr. return to the MCU? The Iron Man actor recently spoke about the possibility of reprising his iconic role in a future project.
Robert Downey Jr. officially won his first Oscar in March 2023 with his Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor following his performance in Oppenheimer. This has led many to think that Downey’s days in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are behind him. However, it seems the actor may not be done playing Iron Man quite yet, with the actor revealing he’d be more than happy to return to the role.
“Happily,” Downey answered when asked if he’d be open to playing Iron Man again. “It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
It’s good to hear that Robert Downey Jr. holds the role of Iron Man so near and dear to his heart. Bashing superhero movies has been in vogue for the past year or so as the MCU continues to find its footing in a post-Endgame world. Even if Downey never returns to the role, it helps improve the movie-going environment for everyone to have an Oscar winner support such a controversial franchise that brings joy to millions around the world.
Robert Downey Jr. May Return Sooner Than Expected
When it comes to Robert Downey Jr. making a return as Iron Man, all eyes are on Avengers: Secret Wars. The film is being set up as a celebration of, not just the MCU, but all Marvel movies. A celebration like that wouldn’t be complete without Iron Man, who brought superhero movies back from the brink of destruction and kickstarted a new era of filmmaking.
His return isn’t out of the question either. Recent rumors suggested that Hugh Jackman would want to headline Avengers: Secret Wars alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. Even if those three don’t play leading roles, the possibility that they could share the screen is enough to make even the biggest Marvel fan faint in excitement.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be the final movie of Phase 6 of the MCU. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
