The Batman star Robert Pattinson has opened up on the challenge of meeting expectations and living up to the physicality required for the role of the Caped Crusader in the upcoming Matt Reeves film.
The former Twilight actor is set to succeed Ben Affleck as the next Dark Knight in Warner Bros. new iteration of the DC superhero. Despite previously stating that he was not working out while production on the project is suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Pattinson recently revealed his workout routine and even showed off his superhero physique while on a run last week.
Speaking with Healthy For Men, The Batman star got candid about living up to the expectations of playing the iconic character, praising the hard work that other actors and Marvel stars have done to realize their comic book counterparts.
“Any actor will go through periods where they hesitate and question whether they can live up to a character in a script, or the expectations that go with it,” Pattinson said. “You look at the true warriors of the superhero genre — Hemsworth, The Rock, Downey Jr, Evans — and wonder if you’re putting yourself in the wrong place. And yet, having spoken to a few, I know everyone is nervous when the opportunity comes about.”
Pattinson emphasized the importance of living up to the physicality required of the role as well as the understanding that there’s only so much he can do before post-production has to take the wheel.
“It’s all about pushing boundaries and building up to where you know you can do justice to the physicality required,” The Batman star explained. “And past that, so much of it is letting the special effects and on-screen exchanges produce the real magic. Overall, it’s just very exciting.”
Plot details for The Batman are under wraps but the project will be centered on Pattinson as a younger Caped Crusader, chronicling Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector. The Batman will also feature the hero making use of his detective skills more than what we’ve seen before in previous iterations of the character. The film is also expected to be the first installment to a new trilogy with Pattinson as Batman.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding Robert Pattinson’s The Batman and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more content in the future!
