Warner Bros. has recently adjusted its release calendar, resulting in a delay for The Batman 2.

The Batman 2, featuring Robert Pattinson’s return as the titular character, is now slated for a theatrical debut on October 2, 2026. The movie was previously expected to hit theaters on October 3, 2025.

The production of The Batman 2 faced delays due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, which lasted from May 2 to September 27, tying with the 1960 action as the second-longest in WGA history at 148 days. The WGA strike, part of broader Hollywood labor disagreements about issues such as artificial intelligence, significantly impacted the script development of The Batman 2, contributing to the film’s postponed release, as reported by TheWrap.

The future of the Batman series

The Batman 2 is set in an Elseworlds-type universe, separate from the unified DC Universe strategy spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran. While Gunn and Safran’s vision will commence with the Creature Commandos animated series and the new Superman movie, Matt Reeves continues to carve his own path with The Batman 2. Additionally, a spin-off series focusing on The Penguin is currently in development at Max, further expanding the distinctive world established by The Batman.

The first movie ended with Robert Pattinson’s Batman apprehending Paul Dano’s Riddler and fully becoming Gotham’s Dark Knight, though details about Part II are currently scarce. Matt Reeves is co-writing the script of the sequel with Mattson Tomlin. The first movie earned $770.8 million at the worldwide box office, a figure that makes it the seventh highest-grossing movie of 2022.
