Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is returning to IMAX theaters for a limited run, featuring an exclusive sneak peek at Andor.
Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, reception to the new era of Star Wars has been mixed. Although every film (with the exception of Solo) has achieved great box office success, the Sequel Trilogy is still subject to constant debates and criticism amongst fans, and even new series such as The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi also received a mixed reception. However, the film with the most positive consensus surrounding it is Rogue One, which will also have its own prequel series in Andor premiering on Disney Plus later this year.
In anticipation for the release of Andor, Disney will be re-releasing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story into IMAX theaters for a limited run on Friday, August 26. Along with the film returning to IMAX, a special first look at the new Disney Plus series starring Diego Luna will also be included.
Andor, the most cinematic Star Wars series yet?
With Rogue One returning to IMAX theaters along with a special sneak peek at Andor, it’s clear that Disney is quite excited to bring audiences back to this era in the Star Wars universe. After all, Gareth Edwards’ film remains as the general consensus favorite amongst fans in the Disney era. It’s also worth noting that this re-release of the film in IMAX is happening while no special re-release of any of the Prequel Trilogy films occurred in preparation for Obi-Wan Kenobi earlier this year, which would’ve made so much sense and would’ve given fans an opportunity to revisit George Lucas’ previously-maligned films that have since received a warmer reception in the wake of the polarizing Sequel Trilogy.
Diego Luna first appeared as Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Here is the synopsis for the film:
Former scientist Galen Erso lives on a farm with his wife and young daughter, Jyn. His peaceful existence comes crashing down when the evil Orson Krennic takes him away from his beloved family. Many years later, Galen becomes the Empire’s lead engineer for the most powerful weapon in the galaxy, the Death Star. Knowing that her father holds the key to its destruction, Jyn joins forces with a spy and other resistance fighters to steal the space station’s plans for the Rebel Alliance.
Directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay co-written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy based on a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta, Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD, while Andor will hit Disney Plus on September 21, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the series and the future of Star Wars, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more great video content!
