Rosario Dawson Denies Jon Bernthal’s Return As The Punisher For The MCU

Rosario Dawson debunked her own claims.

Rosario Dawson Jon Bernthal The Punisher

Rosario Dawson claimed that Jon Bernthal would be playing The Punisher again, only to debunk her statement hours later.

Several years ago, Marvel Television and Netflix collaborated on bringing street-level comic book characters to life in their own shared universe of TV shows. Those shows included the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and Defenders. Rosario Dawson was often a character that brought some major connective tissue amongst the shows as Claire Temple, while Jon Bernthal made his debut as Frank Castle in season 2 of Daredevil.

It’s been a few years since Netflix cancelled all of their original streaming content collaborations with Marvel Television, and after years of anticipation, some parts of that shared universe is being brought back into the current canon of the MCU. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio both returned as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin respectively, with Cox appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and D’Onofrio appearing in Hawkeye. Both will also be appearing in Daredevil: Born Again, an 18-episode new Disney Plus series that’s currently in development. In regards to other characters returning, Rosario Dawson seemingly revealed the return of Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, but has since debunked the news hours after sharing it.

Rosario Dawson backtracks on her claim.

Rosario Dawson appeared at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo 2022 and shared to attendees that she heard that Jon Bernthal would be making his return as The Punisher in an upcoming MCU project. Naturally, fans got pretty excited, but it appears that Dawson shared false information, debunking her statement sometime later on her official Twitter:

Here is the official synopsis for season 2 of Jon Bernthal’s series:

Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as “The Punisher.”

The Punisher season 2 stars Jon Bernthal, Ben Barnes, Amber Rose Revah, Jason R. Moore, Deborah Ann Woll, Josh Stewart, Floriana Lima, Giorgia Whigham, Corbin Bernsen, and Annette O’Toole.
