Has the MCU already cast one of its most beloved X-Men? Sadie Sink speaks out on the recent viral rumor that she’s playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man 4.
Just recently, it was confirmed that Sadie Sink would finally be joining the MCU in Spider-Man 4, playing an undisclosed role. This shook the internet, not only because Sink herself is a massive star thanks to her role as Max in Stranger Things, but because the actress has been the center of one of perhaps the most pervasive X-Men rumor in the franchise’s history. That being that Sink was going to be playing Jean Grey in the upcoming reboot.
While some dissident speculation has popped up regarding her role in Spider-Man 4, many still believe the rumor that she will be in fact playing the X-Men’s Marvel Girl in the film. This has caused quite a bit of confusion online as people try to separate fact from fiction. Luckily, as Sink is currently on a promotional tour for the film O’Dessa, she was able to give her thoughts on the internet’s discourse around her potentially playing Jean Grey.
“This is news to me. This is news to me,” Sink admitted in a recent talk with the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “No, I have nothing to say about this. The rumors are really cool, though. It’s an awesome rumor. I know the character. It’s a great character, so that was cool to read.”
Who Is Sadie Sink Playing In Spider-Man 4?
Of course, when it comes to any discourse regarding the MCU rumor mill, one must tap the sign reading “Actors Can Lie”, positioned helpfully next to one reminding people “A Rumor Isn’t Confirmation”. It’s possible that Sadie Sink is lying here and is playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man 4. It’s also equally possible that she’s telling the truth and she was never in contention to lead the X-Men reboot. Both possibilities should be considered when speculating and discoursing about the topic.
Though if Sadie Sink isn’t playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man 4, what other character could she be playing? There are currently two schools of thought when it comes to her role. The first is a new rumor that she’ll be playing Mary Jane Watson, serving as a “soft reboot” of the character in the MCU following Zendaya’s time as Michelle Jones. The second and less supported idea is that she’ll be playing another X-Men member in Firestar, who infamously co-starred with the web-head in 1981’s Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
