Marvel has yet to find a director for Avengers: Secret Wars. Could Sam Raimi recreate the magic of his original Spider-Man trilogy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Despite his recent fumble with the MCU’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Sam Raimi is a legend in the comic book movie community for his role as the director of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy, which contains two of the best superhero films ever made in the eyes of many fans, as well as a third movie we don’t talk about.
This has left many to nominate Sam Raimi as the obvious choice to helm Avengers: Secret Wars. While the director’s forte is low-budget horror like the Evil Dead franchise, Raimi has proven himself more than capable enough of juggling a multiverse of MCU heroes thanks to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so long as he gets an actually good script.
Could Sam Raimi Direct Avengers: Secret Wars?
While Sam Raimi has been busy producing, he doesn’t have any directing work coming up the pipeline. This has led many to speculate he may be gearing up for a big comeback in the MCU. When asked if he’d be open to helming Avengers: Secret Wars, the Spider-Man director admitted he’d love to, though he hasn’t been asked yet.
“I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books.” Raimi told Screen Geek. “I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do.”
It seems as though Sam Raimi, not only hasn’t been approached for Avengers: Secret Wars, but also hasn’t been approached for any other MCU project. This is a pretty big shame for fans of the Spider-Man trilogy who hoped he would become a mainstay in the universe. Luckily, there’s still time for Marvel to get him on the horn!
Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy returns to theaters this April. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
