Is Justin Hammer finally making his return? Sam Rockwell speaks on potentially reprising his role in Armor Wars, just so long as Walton Goggins comes along for the ride.
Armor Wars is an odd duck. It’s a series that was announced alongside Wandavision and Loki as some of Marvel’s initial offerings on Disney Plus. However, following multiple delays and reworks between it being a show and a movie, the project is essentially in a permanent limbo. But despite that, one rumor has remained constant: Sam Rockwell will return as Justin Hammer.
The idea that Justin Hammer could return in Armor Wars is a present surprise to everyone, including Sam Rockwell! The actor was recently asked about the long-held rumor in a recent chat with Screenrant. While Rockwell wasn’t even sure the project was still in development, he did pitch a crossover between him and Walton Goggins’ Sonny Birch from Ant-Man and The Wasp.
“Oh Armor Wars. Oh, you mean the Marvel thing? Is that being made? [Walton Goggins] and I could team up like bad guys, that kind of thing.”
Is Justin Hammer In Armor Wars?
Though dream pitches of seeing Walton Goggins back in the MCU aside, it seems as though Sam Rockwell is rather positive about making a return as the character. The actor admits that he’d be open to playing Justin Hammer again in Armor Wars, or even taking on a new identity as a truly “super” villain.
“It’s definitely a fun character. It’d be fun to play either that or a supervillain. It’d be great.”
Of course, with Armor Wars in a perpetual state of “probably not gonna happen,” it’s most likely that Sam Rockwell won’t be making a return as Justin Hammer anytime soon. Still, if it ever were to happen, seeing Walton Goggins be redeemed as Sonny Birch would be the true cherry on top of a delicious comic book sundae.
