The third episode of Marvel’s Secret Invasion has been released. The episode ended with yet another shocking death of a character fans wanted to see more of in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The stakes of Secret Invasion were ratcheted to eleven in its latest episode, with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos in a race against time to stop Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Gravik from bombing a United Nations plane and starting World War 3. Luckily for fans, Talos is able to reach his daughter Gi’ah, played by Emilia Clarke, who tells him the passcode to stop the bombing.
However, Gravik’s plan wasn’t foiled so easily, as it is revealed in the final moments of the episode that the entire thing was a ploy to discover the mole inside the Skrull resistance. Once he discovers it’s Emilia Clarke’s Gi’ah, he shoots and seemingly kills her.
This twist has served as yet another one further dividing fans on Secret Invasion, as many hoped Emilia Clarke would continue to appear in the MCU, perhaps taking on the role of Abigail Brand with Nick Fury’s S.W.O.R.D. initiative. Yet it seems those hopes are dashed.
Or are they? The subplot of Secret Invasion‘s third episode revolves around the creation of Super Skrulls, which are Skrulls that are given powers to fight off Nick Fury and the Avengers. Earlier in the episode specific attention is called to Gravik being able to heal a wound in his hand using those powers. Could it be possible Gi’ah also became a Super Skrull off-screen and she’ll be revealed to be alive in a future episode? Only time will tell.
How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu . The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.
The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
