‘Secret Invasion’ Episode 4 Continues Shocking Disney Plus Pattern

A shocking pattern!

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in Secret Invasion

The newest episode of Marvel’s Secret Invasion just released on Disney Plus. The show’s fourth episode continues a shocking pattern, not just for Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, but Secret Invasion itself.

Readers beware! The following article contains spoilers for Secret Invasion. Continue at your own risk!

This latest episode of Secret Invasion sees Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos fighting to stop the assassination of the president of the United States. With the show passing its midpoint, it follows in the footsteps of WandaVision and Hawkeye in introducing massive status quo changes in their fourth episode. This time, with the death of Talos at the hands of Gravik.

This also continues the worrying trend of a main character dying at the hands of Gravik at the end of nearly every Secret Invasion episode. Starting with Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill in the second episode, Emilia Clarke’s Gi’ah in the third (though she was later revealed to be alive thanks to the Super Skrull procedure), and now Talos. It’s unclear if Ben Mendelsohn will return like his character’s daughter, but given the show just had a fake-out death, it’s unlikely. Only time will tell if this worrying trend will continue, perhaps ending with the death of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu. The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.

The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
