Marvel’s Secret Invasion has served to be divisive among fans, to say the least. This has led it to become the worst-rated Disney Plus MCU series on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

For better or worse, Rotten Tomatoes has become the gold standard for reviews in recent years. While Secret Invasion avoided the fate of being certified rotten, at the time of writing it’s the lowest-rated Disney Plus series from the MCU on the site with a 57% from critics. The show manages to scrape to second worst rated with an audience score of 61%, but that’s only due to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law‘s dismal 32%.

The MCU series doesn’t fare much better on Metacritic. Secret Invasion once more lands at the bottom of Disney Plus rankings with a 63 score. This certainly stings Marvel Studios given the show is said to be one of the most expensive Disney Plus projects to date. While this certainly means a season 2 is out of the question, these scores along with Disney CEO Bob Iger’s recent comments may mean the beginning of the end for the MCU on the streaming service.

How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu. The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.

The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
