An animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film reboot is in the works from Nickelodeon and Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures.

A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes came out back in 2014 and spanned two films, but news broke back in 2018 that Paramount was moving forward with another reboot of the series with Andrew Dodge writing the script. In the meantime, there have been a couple Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated shows released ever since Nickelodeon bought the rights to the franchise with an animated film for Netflix in the works as well. TMNT was a theatrically released animated film that came out in 2007, and it looks like the Turtles are heading back in that direction once again.

Instead of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles getting the live-action treatment on the big screen for the sixth time, Deadline is reporting Paramount is developing a theatrically released animated film. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver will produce the project under Point Grey Pictures, responsible for comic book shows like The Boys and Preacher. Gravity Falls‘ Jeff Rowe is on board to direct with Neighbors scribe Brendan O’Brien tapped to pen the screenplay. President of Kids & Family for ViacomCBS Brian Robbins had this to say about the upcoming project:

“Adding Seth, Evan and James’ genius to the humor and action that’s already an integral part of TMNT is going to make this a next-level reinvention of the property. I’m looking forward to see what they do, and I know that Ramsey Naito and her team are excited to take the Nick Animation Studio into another great direction with their first-ever CG-animated theatrical.”

As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew they find themselves facing an even greater threat with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.

Directed by David Green, the 2016 film stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Laura Linney, Stephen Amell, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, Tyler Perry, Sheamus, Brian Tee, and Gary Anthony Williams.
