‘Ironheart’ Adds Shakira Barrera As Series Regular

Shakira Barrera has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ Ironheart series coming to Disney Plus in fall 2023.

Ironheart is set to explore Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams after she is introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever later this year. The six-episode series is currently filming in Atlanta, with set photos already revealing Riri’s Ironheart armor.

Ironheart Casts Another

More details regarding Ironheart could arrive at D23 later this week, but in the meantime, more casting news comes from Deadline. According to the Hollywood trade, Sprung and GLOW star Shakira Barrera has joined Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart as a series regular. The upcoming Marvel series also stars Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana, Alden Ehrenreich, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, and Regan Aliyah.

Chinaka Hodge is the showrunner of the series with Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes on board as directors. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is producing Ironheart under his Proximity Media banner. Hodge, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, and Zoie Nagelhout are listed as executive producers.

Here is the synopsis for Riri Willaims’ MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever:

“In Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.”

Directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett.
