Shang-Chi may finally be getting his sequel! Simu Liu teases his return to the Marvel universe in a surprising image showing off his physique.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a surprising hit for Marvel, with fans claiming it to be one of the hidden gems of Phase 4. Yet with the film recently turning three years old, fans have been wondering why there’s been no word on a sequel. This has led many to wonder if, given the film’s director Destin Daniel Cretton has just signed on to direct Spider-Man 4, Simu Liu may be out of a job when it comes to being a superhero.
However, Shang-Chi fans shouldn’t give up hopes quite yet! Simu Liu recently took to Instagram to show off his new physique, with the simple caption of “prepping”. While this could be for any number of roles, many fans believe that this could mean Marvel is finally moving forward with a sequel for his film, even in spite of losing a director.
Is A Shang-Chi Sequel Really Happening?
Given Simu Liu has repeatedly confirmed that another Shang-Chi film is happening at Marvel Studios, many fans are hesitant to believe that this photo is for a direct follow-up. With almost no leaks and absolutely zero casting information about a potential sequel, it wouldn’t make sense that the star is already prepping to return to the role for his own solo project.
This could mean that Simu Liu is making his return as Shang-Chi in an entirely different project. And while any number could be in consideration, Destin Daniel Cretton’s involvement with Spider-Man 4 all but guarantees that to be the film Liu is prepping for. Especially since, out of all the films on Marvel Studios’ plate, that’s the one set to start filming the soonest.
