‘Shazam!’ Director Clarifies New Trailer Release Window

Shazam! Zachary Levi Jim Lee DCThe next Shazam! trailer is on its way but maybe not as soon as some fans were expecting.

Warners Bros. and DC made their panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con pretty special for fans. Not only did they release the first trailer for Aquaman, which earned massive praise from excited fans, but they also dropped the first trailer for next year’s Shazam!, starring Zachary Levi as the titular DC hero.

Levi recently teased fans about the arrival of the next trailer “in the new year”. Fans were hoping that this would mean that on New Year’s Day, there would be a fresh new Shazam! trailer to get hyped about. Director David F. Sandberg clarified in a Twitter post that although fans won’t see the trailer immediately in the new year, it is on its way and it’ll release early in 2019. Check out Sandberg’s full statement in the post below.

Shazam! opens in a season that is surprisingly jam-packed with comic-book films. After the long-awaited Alita: Battle Angel arrives in February, Captain Marvel hits theaters in March about a month later. At the beginning of the following month, the original Captain Marvel hits the big screen in Shazam!. Just three weeks later, the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Shazam! as soon as more information becomes available. Are you excited to see Shazam! next year? Which comic book arcs featuring the character are your favorite? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Honsou.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
