David F. Sandberg revealed during a social media Q&A that there is no truth to the rumors that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is undergoing reshoots or being “retooled” by Warner Bros. Discovery.

It is an uncertain time for DC Films. Since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, projects such as Batgirl and Batman: Caped Crusader have faced sudden and unexpected cancellation, while Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have both been delayed.

These delays gave rise to rumors that Warner Bros. Discovery wanted more work done on the Shazam! sequel, but director David F. Sandberg has revealed there was no truth to these reports.

Filming Is Complete On Shazam! Fury Of The Gods

Responding to a fan question in an Instagram Q&A session, David F. Sandberg confirmed no reshoots are taking place on Shazam! Fury of the Gods, with all shooting now complete and the film well into post-production.

The director clarified that, while he had also seen reports the film was being “retooled,” the current cut of the film is locked, with only VFX, color and sound work now ongoing. Sandberg said that Warner Bros. Discovery felt Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘s original release window was a better fit for Fury of the Gods, which is the only reason the film was delayed.

In his full response, David F. Sandberg said:

“No. I’ve seen reports that Shazam is being “retooled” but it’s not true. The cut has been locked for quite some time and we’re doing final mix, color and vfx right now. Everyone is happy with the film and we’re not going to work longer on it just because of the release date shift. They figured Aquaman’s previous date was better for us and that’s the reason we moved.

“Definitely not shooting more.”

This sounds like good news for Shazam! Fury of the Gods. While Warner Bros. Discovery may have pushed the film back, those directly involved seem to be happy with the film’s current cut and it’s not in need of any new reshoots or additional reworking.

Here is the synopsis for the first Shazam! film:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quick.

Directed by David F. Sandberg from a script written by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan, Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, D.J. Cotrona, Grace Caroline Currey, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Marta Millans, Cooper Andrews, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu, and Helen Mirren.
