‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ Has A Shockingly Low Budget

Is bigger always better?

Zachary Levi Shazam DC Universe

Despite positive early reviews for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the film is set to fall short during its opening weekend. However, a new report by Variety reveals that it doesn’t have a giant budget to make up either.

The first Shazam! film was met with praise from critics and fans alike for being one of the best DCU films to come out around the time. Most people would assume a success like that would warrant a higher budget for the sequel. However, a recent report by Variety has revealed that the film has the same budget of its predecessor at $100 million.

While $100 million is a lot of money for most films, it is a decent amount less than many other films in the superhero genre. Black Adam, which is almost a sister film to Shazam! due to the shared origins of their characters, is reported to have had nearly double the budget of Shazam! while only making $14 million more than the first film during its opening weekend. Its unclear whether or not this lower budget spells success at the box office despite a lower opening weekend than desired.

The talent behind the Shazam! sequel

Cotrona, Grace Caroline Currey, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Marta Millans, Cooper Andrews, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren.

David F. Sandberg recently announced that Shazam! Fury of the Gods has already been completed ahead of its March release.
