‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ Has ‘Wonder Woman’ Continuity Error

Yikes!

Shazam! Fury of the Gods has been met with a string of bad fortune from poor box office returns to a rotten reception from critics. Following its recent release on digital, a fan has been quick to kick the film while its down by noticing an impossible continuity error.

The Shazam! Fury of the Gods error was spotted during a shot where the camera looks to the wall of dozens of newspapers. On one of the newspapers is an article speculating about a romance between the titular Shazam and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. The point of concern was one of the pictures in an article, which a fan was quick to point out was impossible to exist:

For those unaware, the lower picture in the frame is a screencap from the first Wonder Woman film, showing Diana Prince rising from the trenches to plow through No Man’s Land. Ignoring the possibility of someone being able to take a clear photo in the middle of a warzone, the film took place in 1917, making it impossible for a photograph to exist with that high of quality.

Using promotional photos or screenshots from prior films isn’t a tactic exclusive to Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It’s a common practice across the film industry to save time and money instead of setting up an entire new scene to photograph for a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene. What comes off as so jarring in this example is that Diana has appeared in multiple movies in the modern day, including Wonder Woman 1984. The photo could have just as easily come from one of those films and avoided this controversy. Sometimes though, mistakes just happen. It’s up to fans to decide if this mistake is big enoug to distract from the rest of the film.

The talent behind the Shazam! sequel
