A Shazam! concept artist has shared a close-up look at the Tawky Tawny homage featured on Zachary Levi’s supehero suit.
Shazam! costume concept artist Jerad S.Marantz recently took to Instagram to share an up-close look at one of the film’s coolest Easter eggs. Those two tiger heads are a homage to a classic Shazam! character named Tawky Tawny and Marantz’s artwork gives fans their best look yet at their design.

Got to put Mr. Tawky Tawny on the #Shazam buttons on the suit. I was really excited when they went with this idea. There were definitely a few tiger Easter eggs throughout the movie, but I love the idea of having Tawny incorporated into the costume. It was easy enough, I just created an alpha and sank it into the button model. Incredible movie, incredible team! #shazammovie #tawnythetiger #mrtawkytawny #costume #costumedesign #dcu #zbrush #conceptart #zacherylevi
Created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck, Tawky Tawny is an anthropomorphic tiger who made his debut in the pages of Captain Marvel Adventures #79 in 1979. Tawky Tawny is often depicted as an ally of Shazam and the Marvel Family in the comics.
Henry Gayden is currently writing a Shazam! sequel, with David F. Sandberg expected to return to the director’s chair. In the meantime, Zachary Levi’s Shazam! is available on all home media formats. Here’s the official synopsis:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
