During an appearance at Germany’s CCXP Cologne convention, Shazam! star Zachary Levi told attendees he would be open to playing a different and darker DC character.
Warner Bros. and DC’s Shazam! offered audiences a brighter and more humorous DC film, which lead star Zachary Levi helped deliver perfectly with his enthusiastic performance. However, Zachary Levi noted that should he ever be asked, he would more open to playing different DC characters, especially if it were darker than Shazam:
“Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Look, if DC came to me and said, ‘Hey Zach, we’d love to be in business with you, would you like to play any of the characters in our catalog?’ My answer would be ‘Yes, please, thank you.’ I mean, there’s some that I would like to play more, I suppose because I think they’re more dynamic characters, but yeah, I would love to play some dark, brooding [character].”
Writer Henry Gayden is set to pen the screenplay for Warner Bros. and DC’s Shazam! 2 and David F. Sandberg expected to return as director. In the meantime, the first film is currently available on all home media formats.
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
