Sony are unsure whether to include Spider-Man in spin-off movies according to Silver & Black director Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Sony have finally begun exploring their Spider-Man characters on the big-screen, first with Tom Hardy’s Venom and next year’s Morbius, but some fans are still waiting for Silver & Black to arrive from director Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film has been stuck in development hell for quite some time, but in a recent interview with Total Film, the director says although she found an organic way for the Silver & Black team-up, Sony are unsure whether to include the Web-Slinger in its future spin-off movies.

“My honest answer is I don’t know. I really love those characters, I loved having them together. I thought, what we came up with was a really good, really organic way to have the two together. That world is changing so much because of the success of the Spider-Man films.”

Gina Prince-Bythewood was speaking to the publication ahead of The Old Guard when she revealed that Sony is floating the idea that Spider-Man should appear in spin-offs due to the success and popularity of the character. The director also says she’s hoping to go back and discuss the possibility of working on Silver & Black again if The Old Guard is successful.

“There’s a question of, ‘Can you really have these films with Spider-Man not in them? Should he at least have some sort of part in them?’ That’s always the question. I’ve taken two years off of that for [The Old Guard] so once this gets out into the world, I hope it’s a success, and then I’ll certainly go back and start talking with them again.”

Here is the official synopsis for Sony’s next Marvel film, Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.

Morbius is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on March 19, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel!
