Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu made a joke targeting Warner Bros. over the cancellation of Batgirl.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery was cancelling Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt for tax writeoffs. The news has been subject to much scrutiny online, given that both films have been close to complete, and in regards to the DC Extended Universe film, it leads to yet another moment of negative press for the franchise, which has already had its share of bad PR. Now, Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu has made an interesting joke related to this situation.

On his official Twitter, Simu Liu shared the following tongue-in-cheek tweet, that is clearly a jab at Warner Bros. for cancelling Batgirl:

Shang-Chi pokes fun at WB Discovery

What’s interesting about this joke is in how it shows that Simu Liu is not afraid to speak negatively about the powers that be. Sometime before the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, he criticized Disney CEO Bob Chapek for his comments that the release of the film in theaters and its shortened theatrical window was an “experiment.” This joke made at the expense of Warner Bros. Discovery following the cancellation of Batgirl is interesting given that he will star in the upcoming Greta Gerwig film Barbie, which will also be distributed by WB Pictures.

Here is the synopsis for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings:

“Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.”

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, the MCU film stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, and Tony Leung.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings is available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray DVD, Digital HD, and to stream on Disney Plus.
