The Spider-Verse franchise has released another hit! Sony recently put out a new short film from the series titled The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse left fans begging for any scraps of Spider-Verse content they could get their hands on. While the film’s sequel is still a long way from being released, Sony has blessed fans with a new installment in the franchise with the short film The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story.
The short film follows Miles Morales prior to the events of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse as he struggles to maintain his social life and family life, along with the stresses of being a superhero. This leads to Miles suffering a panic attack, ending with a sweet message about the importance of reaching out for help. The short film can be seen in full below.
The Worrying Progress Of The Spider-Verse Sequel
While The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story may be enough to satiate fans for now, they’re still eagerly awaiting a proper sequel in Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. The film was originally supposed to come out this month (March 2024) before ultimately being delayed.
It’s likely little work was done on Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse prior to Across The Spider-Verse‘s release. Apparently, production on the last film was “down to the wire,” with changes being made basically up until the point of release. This led to allegations of severe crunch time put on the animators, having worked basically around the clock to ensure the film came out on time.
While no official release date has been revealed for Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, it’s not likely to be coming out anytime soon. The cast has yet to record any lines for the film and, given the state of strikes in Hollywood, it’s hopeful that Sony will avoid crunch time for the film, if only to prevent massive backlash.
