Sony’s ‘Venom’ Crosses $500 Million Worldwide

Variety reports that Sony’s Venom crossed the $500 million mark at the global box office.

Over the past weekend, Sony’s Venom grossed an additional $17.3 million in 65 international markets, bringing the film’s global total to $500 million. The film, which is intended to launch Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, has yet to be released in Japan and China.

This weekend, the film tied for third place with Warner Bros.’ animated family film titled Smallfoot.

Venom follows Eddie Brock as he attempts to revive his journalism career by investigating the Life Foundation only to come into with an alien symbiote that bonds with him, granting him powers and transforming him into the titular anti-hero.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.
