‘Spider-Man 4’ Compared To ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ As Multiverse Rumors Mount

Spider-Man enters the Spider-Verse!

Is Spider-Man 4 doomed to the multiverse? The highly-anticipated sequel is compared to Deadpool and Wolverine as a rumor of Spider-Verse cameos gains traction.

Spider-Man 4 is set to be a fresh start for the character’s journey in the MCU, with their last outing having shed them of almost all baggage tying them to the prior trilogy. This left many fans hopeful that the film would bring the character down to the street level to tackle some classic Spider-Man stories. Yet a new rumor suggests that the project may be tied much closer to the multiverse than many fans would have liked.

While the rumor mill has supported the idea that Spider-Man 4 will contain multiverse elements, very few individual leaks have stuck around long enough to be considered truly credible. However, Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus recently revealed that they’ve heard Marvel wants the sequel to be a spectacle in the same way as Deadpool and Wolverine, only incorporating more characters from Sony’s side of the fence.

“What I have been told is that both Marvel AND Sony want this film in particular to be a team up movie in the way that Marvel produced Deadpool and Wolverine. And that the end goal here is to recapture that same magic and team up dynamic but switch out Deadpool and Fox for Spider-Man and Sony.”

How Spider-Man 4 Will Tackle The Multiverse

That quote may put fans into a cold sweat imagining Spider-Man 4 incorporating characters from Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web. Luckily, it seems things may be slightly better than that. Perez would explain that the film is considering bringing other Spider-Man variants from across the multiverse back for the sequel, as well as doubling down on the rumor of Knull’s appearance.

“There were talks at one point about incorporating appearances from Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2099 in the Multiverse Saga; but at the moment, it’s only ever been ideas being thrown around,” Perez explained regarding the Spider-Verse heroes before continuing. “I’ll tell you this about Knull. I still believe we’re going to get to see him in Spider-Man 4. Too many pieces are falling into place at the same time.”

Turning Spider-Man 4 into a live-action Spider-Verse against Knull would certainly be a spectacle. However, it would also ratchet stakes up so far it’s unclear where the studio would take the MCU’s next sequel. It may certainly be the lucrative route given how much Deadpool and Wolverine made at the box office, but any multiverse story this late into the game would have to be something truly special to resonate with audiences.
