‘Spider-Man 4’ Rumor Suggests Massive Rewrites For Upcoming Sequel

Is Spider-Man 4 in trouble?

Spider-Man 4 might not be coming just yet! A new rumor about the sequel’s script reveals that the project may be undergoing some major plot changes.

Following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans were clamoring for any news they could get on Spider-Man 4. However, it was clear that Tom Holland, Kevin Feige and the entire Marvel Studios team wanted to take a beat before lunging headfirst into a sequel, especially given director Jon Watts declined to return for the upcoming film. This left fans in the dark for years, the rumor mill having been tapped dry.

After years of silence, things finally started to look up for Spider-Man 4. Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton was officially tapped to helm the sequel, ending a years-long search for a new person to guide the project. The film also got a long-awaited release date, with Tom Holland officially set to swing back to the silver screen in the summer of 2026. The rumor mill even started back up, with a number of quickly discredited rumors about a King in Black storyline finding their way onto everyone’s timelines.

Spider-Man 4 Gets A Script Overhaul

Yet the cold hand of the rumor mill takes just as much as it gives. A post by scooper MyTimeToShineHello revealed that, even though Tom Holland is gung-ho about the current story for Spider-Man 4, Kevin Feige feels differently. This has apparently led to major rewrites for the script, including structural changes to the plot. The scooper also claims that the rewritten script isn’t done yet, and likely won’t be done for a while.

This could be grim news for fans hoping Spider-Man 4 delivers on time. Tom Holland has a packed schedule for 2025, filming Avengers: Doomsday and Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey all in the same timespan of the upcoming sequel. Any delays with the script could mean massive delays for the film, potentially pushing it back deeper into 2026 or even 2027.
