Is Venom finally making his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? A new rumor about the title of Spider-Man 4 suggests one of the character’s most iconic storylines may be up for adaptation.

Ever since Tom Hardy made his big screen debut as Venom, fans have been begging for the actor to find his way to the MCU to face off against Tom Holland. Yet, with Spider-Man: No Way Home treating the possibility as a punchline, and Venom: The Last Dance reportedly being the last time Hardy will play the character, fans have resigned themselves to a new actor taking up the iconic symbiote heading into Spider-Man 4‘s production.

However, it seems not all hope is lost. A new rumor regarding the official title for Spider-Man 4 hints that Tom Hardy may not be as done with Venom as he claims. According to Hollywood insider Cryptic4KQual, who has reliably scooped film runtimes in the past, Tom Holland’s next outing as the webhead in the MCU is set to be titled Spider-Man: King in Black, a nod to one of the most popular recent storylines involving Venom.

What Is The King In Black Storyline?

The King in Black storyline focuses on Knull, the God behind every symbiote in the multiverse, as he tries to conquer Earth in his eternal quest to snuff out the light of existence. It brought Venom from a simple Spider-Man villain to one of the biggest anti-hero powerhouses in the Marvel universe. While this would be a massive shake-up for the MCU, it does line up with the most recent rumor regarding the direction Sony wants to take Tom Holland’s hero in Spider-Man 4.

If this title rumor is true and the MCU does adapt the King in Black storyline, it’s almost certain that Tom Hardy will return as Venom for Spider-Man 4. While he may not play as central of a role in the conflict as the original comics, with Tom Holland likely being the main protagonist squaring off against Knull, it’s undeniable that the symbiote would play a massive role in the story. And, if the project ends with Eddie’s death, would hold true to Hardy’s insistence that Venom: The Last Dance is the last film in that franchise.
