Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the return of some of the most iconic villains from previous films, including Thomas Haden Church’s return as Sandman. However, that film may not be the last we see of Flint Marko.
Spider-Man villains have entered an odd grey area in recent years. Despite being supporting characters to the main hero, their popularity seems to have drawn Sony’s eye in the hopes of making their own universe of comic characters. Attempts have ranged from the infamous Morbius, to the campy Venom series, and even upcoming projects like the Hypno Hustler film starring Donald Glover. During a recent interview, Church teased that he may be next in line to get his own story:
“John and I and Amy [Pascal] and Kevin, we all had a lot of conversations,” Church told The DisInsider. “And I would say that conversations have been had about the possibility of Sandman coming into a future iteration of it. The conversation has happened about him coming back, and maybe picking up a more fulfilling story. You know? With Flint and being not just Sandman, but returning to human form.”
This isn’t the first fans have heard about a Sandman solo film. Years ago insider DanielRPK said that Sony was interested in making a solo project for both Sandman and the Rhino, though it wasn’t said at the time if Church was attached to the project. With Spider-Man’s recent trip across the Multiverse and the future of the MCU implying he’ll once more be flung far from home, it’s not out of the question we could see this film come to fruition.
What’s next for Spider-Man?
What does the future hold for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker? The success of Spider-Man: No Way Home has opened up a world of possibilities for the fan-favorite Marvel character. The movie ends with Peter erasing himself from the memories of his loved ones in order to protect them from his enemies. This sets up an interesting dynamic for future Spider-Man movies, as Peter will have to navigate a world in which he is not known as Spider-Man.
Rumor has it that Tom Holland has signed on for multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances after Spider-Man: No Way Home. The future of the Spider-Man series is currently unclear, but it is likely that Marvel will continue to explore the multiverse concept that was introduced in No Way Home.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
