New ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ Story Details Revealed At Celebration

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Cal

Today at the panel for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order we got the first look at the next Star Wars game coming to consoles, as well as tons of new details for the single player adventure.

In addition to Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella confirming the game would not include multiplayer or microtransactions yesterday, we learned who the main character will be, as well as what kind of adventure is in store for fans.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order follows Cal, a former Jedi Padawan who managed to escape the clutches of the Empire after the Emperor executed Order 66. Respawn revealed Cal will be played by Gotham star Cameron Monaghan via motion capture. It’s not clear how many years the game takes place after Revenge of the Sith, but Cal has been doing his best to lay low and not be noticed in order to keep his Force abilities from being exposed, until he can no longer do so, sending Cal and the player on what Monaghan teased as “a boy and his dog adventure” with the new droid BD-1. Together, the two go on a journey, meeting new characters along the way across new worlds, including one called Brecca.

“Many Star Wars fans, ourselves included, are really interested in the dark times, so we wanted to explore that mysterious, dangerous period,” said Stig Asmussen, Game Director, Respawn Entertainment. “The team at Lucasfilm have been amazing collaborators, helping us explore and further develop this part of the timeline where the Empire is at the height of its power and any remaining Jedi are in hiding. Within this narrative, we’ve crafted a game with intense, yet thoughtful and fun melee combat using the lightsaber and Force powers, allowing anyone to fulfill their Jedi fantasy.”

Asmussen stressed combat would be a key element of the action-combat game, which will also introduce a new type of Trooper for the Empire, the Purge Troopers, who are working as a set of first responders to help the Inquisitors hunt down the remaining Jedi. As for the Inquisitors themselves, the game will feature the Second Sister who appears the be the primary antagonist for Cal.

While the developers were reluctant to reveal too many story details, it was stressed that the lightsaber Cal can be seen with in the trailer will both grow and evolve over the course of the game, and may not actually belong to Cal. Cal himself was described as both street smart and weary but still optimistic despite suffering the tragedy of Order 66. While Cal may have been keeping a low profile since the purge, the new game will feature Cal teaming up with former Jedi characters. But don’t expect any sort of Master and Apprentice dynamic. Our hero and other former Jedi will be working as equals on a team together against the Second Sister and Purge Troopers.
