‘Suicide Squad’: David Ayer Says Enchantress Had A Solid Arc In His Cut

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has said that Carla Delevingne’s Enchantress has a more solid arc in his cut of the film.

With the recently-announced Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, all eyes have turned towards David Ayer, another director whose vision was repackaged by Warner Bros. and DC. Since the film’s release, it has become evident that Ayer’s Suicide Squad was recut, with his ideas being left out. In 2016, Ayer’s Suicide Squad was released to lukewarm reception, with much of the criticism being thrown towards the film’s choppy editing and shoddy narrative. Disappointment from fans was also seen in the way Carla Delevingne’s Enchantress was portrayed. The villain was notably one dimensional and barely had any screen time despite being the main threat that plagued the titular Suicide Squad.

When asked by a fan if the intro of Suicide Squad was meant to focus more on June Moon discovering Enchantress, David Ayer replied with a resounding yes. The director also teased that the character had a more solid arc in his cut.

Many of Suicide Squad‘s problems stem from the film’s hyper and indecisive tone and editing. The film jumped all over the place, barely allowing audience members to properly digest what was happening. DC had a separate cut of the film which was edited by a trailer house, while David Ayer had another. In the end, Ayer’s cut was never allowed to be shown, disappointing many. His cut of the project seems to remedy a lot of the film’s issues. In fact, his version of the project must have had more of Jared Leto’s Joker, who we only got to see once on the big screen. Hopefully after Zack Snyder’s Justice League is released, fans can fully rally behind the “Ayer cut.”
