Suicide Squad star Jay Hernandez is hopeful that David Ayer’s cut of the film will be announced at the upcoming DC FanDome event.
El Diablo actor Jay Hernandez was the heart and soul of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, a film that was heavily criticized for lacking genuine depth or narrative. Critics and fans found a winner in Hernandez’s El Diablo, who had an evocative, heartbreaking back story that lifted the entire film. Unfortunately, Hernandez’s character couldn’t wholly lift up Ayer’s project, which was plagued with heavy interference from Warner Bros. and DC. Ayer’s intended version of the film failed to hit theatres and the director has opened up about his original vision for the team-up film numerous times.
In a recent tweet, Hernandez revealed that he’s hopeful that David Ayer’s cut of the film will be announced at the upcoming DC FanDome event. You can check out the tweet below.

While Jay Hernandez’s comments aren’t exactly confirmation, they’re as hopeful as they can be, especially with the winky face emoticon. DC FanDome is set to be jam-packed with DC announcements, ranging from television to films to video games. Seeing as Zack Snyder’s Justice League was announced to fan fare, it wouldn’t be surprising if David Ayer’s Suicide Squad got the exact same treatment. DC FanDome is set to take place on August 22, which means Ayer and Warner Bros. have tons of time to hash out any details, should they want to release the director’s cut.
Here is the synopsis for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad:
It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Written and directed by David Ayer, the film stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, and Scott Eastwood.
Suicide Squad is available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the DC Extended Universe and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more great video content!
