There’s no bad blood in this new DC Universe! Supergirl star Melissa Benoist recently spoke about Milly Alcock being cast as the new Girl of Steel for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting any news about Milly Alcock’s role in the DC Universe ever since it was announced she would be playing the iconic heroine Supergirl in the upcoming movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. While Alcock herself has been quiet, previous Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist recently spoke on the topic of recasting heroes, saying every incarnation is valuable to someone.

“I think any and all takes on the character are valuable because of what she stands for.” Benoist told Screen Rant in a recent interview. “Supergirl as an entity is iconic for a reason and has been since the ’50s. I personally think that every iteration of her is valuable for young women to see, and hopefully [with] every take on her, someone will see themselves in it.”

Supergirl has had quite a run as a character in the last few years. Not only did Melissa Benoist’s own take on the character finish a six-season run back in 2021, but Sasha Calle took a swing at the character in The Flash to wide acclaim. Milly Alcock certainly has some big shoes to fill in the DC Universe, but it seems like she’s more than prepared.
