David Corenswet pushed himself to the limit! The Superman star speaks on his training for the DC Universe, along with the obstacles he faced along the way.

Ever since it was announced that David Corenswet would play Superman in the new DC Universe, fans have been keeping an eye on the star. One of the first things they noticed is that he massively bulked up, giving the Man of Steel some Guns of Steel! When asked about how many calories it took to get that big, Corenswet admitted it wasn’t exactly a fun amount.

“When I was bulking somewhere between 4,500 & 5,000 calories per day.” Corenswet explained in a recent Q&A. “It was not fun. I don’t recommend it unless you have a reason to gain 38 pounds in 4 months.”

To put it into perspective, men only need 2,000-3,000 calories a day on average. David Corenswet nearly doubled that to put on the pounds for Superman. While the comic book scene is no stranger to radical transformations in order to get in shape for a role, Corenswet is bringing things to a whole new level. It’ll be tough for anyone in the DC Universe to keep up with him!

David Corenswet’s Obstacles With Superman

Yet with such a grueling training regiment, it’s easy to believe that David Corenswet faced some harsh struggles. A fan asked exactly that during the Q&A, inquiring about what obstacles he faced in joining the DC Universe. The Superman star didn’t give the response most fans were expecting, but made it perfectly clear that the obstacles he faced were mainly physical.

“I have this weird neuroaytpical thing where I hear the question literally and I’m just trying to think of literal obstacles. Like, I ran into a wall at one point. Yeah, I got beat up. That was fun! But there was this glass thing that I was supposed to fly through…Oh, I walked into a door! That was a good obstacle.”

It seems as though Superman’s greatest weakness isn’t Kryptonite; it’s doors! While that answer didn’t reveal much about David Corenswet’s struggles in joining the internationally acclaimed DC Universe, it does show that the star has some humor about him. Though this is only the tip of the iceberg, as a full interview with Corenswet will be dropping in just a few weeks, which is sure to be full of fun tidbits and information about the film!

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
