Is Superman going back for reshoots? DC Studios co-head James Gunn, who is writing and directing the movie, reveals if production is truly wrapped on the DC Universe’s freshman outing.

Reshoots are basically standard in the modern age of Hollywood. It seems every director finds they didn’t quite get enough their first round through. Or, in the case of the old DC Universe with projects like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the first few times through. As such, almost everyone was prepared for James Gunn to shoot more scenes for Superman in the coming months.

However, James Gunn may be more prepared to helm the new DC Universe than fans originally expected. When asked about the possibility of reshoots for Superman, the director admitted that he’d only ever done “a total of one day of reshoots on my past two films combined,” on Threads, meaning the upcoming reboot likely won’t have any to speak of.

How James Gunn Avoided Reshoots For Superman

Of course, avoiding reshoots isn’t something James Gunn stumbled into. Especially for a project like Superman, it takes a lot of preparation and even more skill in execution to get everything on the first go. While speaking about his process in crafting the DC Universe film, the director revealed six key points in keeping things running smoothly.

“1) Over-prepare,” Gunn explained on Threads. “2) Don’t start shooting until I have a finished script my whole team is happy with 3) Hire actors and department heads I know can do their jobs 4) Surround myself with people who will challenge me and not just yes-sir everything”

“5) Ask myself daily – are there any small imperfections in the script or what we’re shooting that might end up feeling like huge imperfections when we cut the film together? 6) 1 and 2 again!”

It’s a shame to say that there are plenty of tentpole releases that head into production without following these very simple rules. James Gunn has experienced how hard it can be to make one of these projects on the other side of the pond, so it’s good to see that the filmmaker is bringing everything he’s learned to Superman and the new DC Universe.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
