James Gunn is staying busy as Superman finished post-production! The director reveals he’s already begun working on a new DC Universe project.
With Superman nearing half a year from finishing filming, fans have been eager to see what tricks James Gunn has up his sleeve for his next project in the DC Universe. The director has been open with the fact that he had a few proposals on his plate regarding what he would tackle next at DC Studios, though didn’t give indication that he was anywhere close to picking one to dive into.
However, a recent post on Threads revealed that James Gunn may be further alone on his next project than fans thought. When responding to a fan asking how he balances post-production on Superman with his other duties as co-chair of DC Studios, the writer let slip that he’s already ‘pre-writing’ his next project for the DC Universe. This likely means he’s creating a treatment for the film, which is an outline of story beats and action lines used to pitch a project.
“The bulk of my time is dealing with post-production on Superman and Peacemaker, but I’m also spending a fair amount of time pre-writing my next DC Studios project and watching dailies and offering ideas on the other projects. It’s much less overwhelming than when I was directing.”
What Will Be James Gunn Write Next For DC?
Given neither Superman nor Peacemaker season 2 have even released, it’s not likely James Gunn is getting a jump on writing a sequel for them. However, it has been confirmed that DC Studios greenlit a second season of Creature Commandos after its smashing debut on Max. It’s possible that the DC Universe’s first animated series is the next project that Gunn will be tackling once post-production on Superman officially wraps.
However, it’s possible that James Gunn handles writing for other projects previously teased as in development at DC Studios. The big name on everyone’s lips is The Authority, a project with little updates since it was first revealed, and what many believe could be used to tee up a proper sequel to Superman. Then again, it’s possible his next outing in the DC Universe is something fans never even knew was on the table. Is anyone feeling a Snowflame solo film?
