A Superman reboot is officially in the works at Warner Bros. from critically acclaimed writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by JJ Abrams.

There’s been plenty of speculation about the Man of Steel’s future on the big screen over the last few years. But now according to Shadow and Act, JJ Abrams is producing a reboot for Warner Bros. under his Bad Robot label alongside writer Ta-Nehisi Coates. Henry Cavill has previously expressed an interest in returning to the Kryptonian costume, but it’s currently not clear whether the new project from Coates and Abrams will bring him back for the role. Ta-Nehisi Coates, whose work on comics like Black Panther and Captain America has been critically acclaimed, revealed in a statement that he’s excited to add to the incredible legacy of the hero.

“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor. I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”

Warner Bros. Chairman Toby Emmerich added that the company is “confident that his take on Superman will give fans a new and exciting way to see the Man of Steel.” JJ Abrams is clearly making the most of his new deal with Warner Bros., with recent news revealing he’s also working on a new Constantine project for HBO Max. But adding to Ta-Nehisi Coates’ comments, Abrams explained that he and Bad Robot “couldn’t be more thrilled” to be working with the writer on bringing a new Superman story to the big screen.

“There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity,”

What do you make of the Superman news? Do you think JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates should work with a new actor instead of Henry Cavill? Would you like to see Cavill return? Sound-off in the comments below!

Superman will next be seen in Justice League, here is the synopsis:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut is expected to hit WarnerMedia’s HBO Max on March 18, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Superman reboot, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
