Is Lex Luthor secretly the ultimate troll? The latest rumor about the plot of Superman paints the upcoming DC Universe movie in a less than serious light.
Fans have known for quite some time that Lex Luthor is going to be the main villain of Superman, even despite the fact that a number of other well-known villains are also making their debut in the DC Universe with this upcoming film. However, what isn’t known is exactly what scheme he’ll be engaging in to try to bring the Man of Steel down for good.
According to the latest rumor, it may be…weirder than fans have come to expect. The latest post from scooper MyTimeToShineHello suggests that Lex Luthor will try to take down Superman via the power of internet trolling. Not only that, but one of the biggest factors as to why Superman will come to blows with his arch enemy is due to a less than endearing hashtag trending in the DC Universe.
“In the movie, Superman is frustrated by social media backlash, with the hashtag #SuperShit being mentioned several times as really getting under his skin. Meanwhile, in Lex’s interdimensional world, hundreds of mutant monkeys are shown typing furiously at keyboards, flooding social media with hate against Superman.”
What Is Lex Luthor’s Goal In Superman?
As with any rumor, though perhaps especially with this rumor, it’s very important to take this with a grain of salt. While fans have been shocked with surprising rumors about the DC Universe before, such as the Sgt. Rock film coming to light, this doesn’t exactly line up with everything fans know so far about Superman. Particularly, this seems rather out of character for both Lex Luthor and the Big Blue Boyscout himself.
However, if one where to take this rumor as true, it wouldn’t exactly be out of James Gunn’s wheelhouse to be able to pull off irreverent humor in a way that makes an audience relate to a character more. Superman is the first crack at a connected DC Universe in the modern internet landscape. And just as Batman V. Superman made Lex Luthor a tech magnate, it could make sense to have this version of Lex Luthor lean into being a troll.
