The cast of Superman just keeps growing! A new batch of set photos confirms Frank Grillo’s Rick Flagg along with a mysterious new character.
Fans have known Frank Grillo would be making his live-action debut as Rick Flag Sr. soon thanks to recent confirmation that he was filming for Peacemaker season 2. However, it seems he’s also joining the cast of Superman, with a new video and set photos confirming his involvement in the project.
The most interesting part of these Superman set photos is that Rick Flag Sr. is actually working alongside The Engineer. This paints The Authority team members in a whole new light. While many thought María Gabriela de Faría’s character would be working with the other film’s other heroes, it seems both she and Frank Grillo will be acting on the side of the military. And they’re not alone.
Superman’s Mysterious Villain
Seen alongside Rick Flag Sr. and The Engineer is an as-of-yet unknown villain. Sporting a large “U” on his chest, many fans have taken these set photos as confirmation that Ultraman will be in the film — especially as nobody has been cast in Superman without a confirmed role, suggesting whoever’s behind the mask might simply be a placeholder.
Rumors that Ultraman would be the main villain of Superman have been circulating for months, with multiple scoopers suggesting that the film would have David Corenswet facing off against his doppelganger. However, given it’s been suggested LuthorCorp would be the creators of this clone, these set photos give fans even more questions as to why he’d be working with Rick Flag Sr. and The Engineer.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
