It seems director Taika Waititi could be courting Ryan Gosling for his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Taika Waititi will be making his return to the MCU, as the Thor: Ragnarok director is set to write and direct the fourth Thor installment titled Love and Thunder. Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman are all reprising their roles in the new film which will be based on Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic book run, with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster becoming the new Thor.
It seems the project could be looking to add another A-list star into the mix as Taika Waititi was spotted having lunch with Ryan Gosling in Los Angeles on Friday. While the nature of the meeting remains a mystery, Ryan Gosling had previously been in talks for Akira, which Taika Waititi was set to direct. Since that project has since been put on hold at Warner Bros., it’s possible Taika Waititi could be looking to bring Ryan Gosling into the fold at Marvel Studios. While nothing has been announced, speculation has already begun to run rampant that Taika Waititi met with Ryan Gosling to discuss a role in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Although Ryan Gosling has yet to take on a superhero role, the actor was previously reported to have met with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige for the role of Doctor Strange. While that role eventually went to Benedict Cumberbatch, Ryan Gosling expressed his interest earlier this year in the role of Batman if First Man and La La Land director Damien Chazelle directed it.
But what do you think? Would you like to see Ryan Gosling join the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder? What superhero would you like to see Ryan Gosling play? Let us know in the comments below!
Taika Waititi is also set to helm a secret project for Fox Searchlight before he begins work on Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder. The next Thor film is not expected to begin production until next year after Shang-Chi finishes filming in Fox Studios in Australia.
