‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ Honest Trailer Roasts Taika Waititi & ‘Family Guy’ Comedy

Taika Waititi's latest Marvel outing gets the Honest Trailers treatment!

Honest Trailers has taken on the MCU’s latest theatrical release, roasting Thor: Love and Thunder and its director Taika Waititi.

Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth entry in Marvel’s Thor franchise, was met with a mixed response from audiences and generally did not compare favorably to Waititi’s previous entry in the series, 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Its overt silliness made it difficult for many fans to feel invested in the film as an MCU story.

The new Honest Trailer for the Marvel movie lays into it for having “the joke rate of Family Guy” and failing to find new ground for Thor to cover.

Some Brutal Honesty For Thor

As well as calling out Thor: Love and Thunder‘s endless and over-the-top gags, Screen Junkies’ new Honest Trailer makes a point of acknowledging how Christian Bale’s Gorr – a highlight of Love and Thunder for many – feels a little wasted in this film.

The trailer points out that Gorr the God Butcher’s only on-screen kill in Thor: Love and Thunder is the first god he meets, at the very start of the movie, whom he only kills in self-defense. The trailer also adds Gorr to the list of “villains who were right, but Marvel heroes only fight to preserve the status quo,” taking a shot at Thor’s child army.

While the Honest Trailer finds elements worthy of praise in Thor: Love and Thunder‘s visuals, Christian Bale’s performance as Gorr and the introduction of Jane Foster’s Thor, it also picks up on characters who are lacking in growth or substance and calls out the lack of a cohesive overall tone or theme.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor sequel stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
