Director Taika Waititi didn’t shy away from the fact that Thor: Love and Thunder will be very similar to Ragnarok.

Taika Waititi revamped Thor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his more comedic take in Ragnarok. Waititi will be back for Thor: Love and Thunder, which will also feature Natalie Portman’s return to the MCU and see Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher.

On The Playlist’s The Discourse Podcast, Taikia Waititi talked briefly about Thor: Love and Thunder and shared that audiences can expect the same tone and scale we got with Ragnarok:

“I don’t think there’s been any difference. I mean really, it’s a similar size and everything’s the same. There’s a few different actors, but the energy and the intention is all still the same.”

Here’s the synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok:

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his home world and the end of Asgardian civilization at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins. Here is the official synopsis for the movie:

Thor: Ragnarok is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Meanwhile, Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
