Taika Waititi is set to helm a secret project for Fox Searchlight before he begins work on Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder.
Shortly before San-Diego Comic-Con 2019, it was reported that Taika Waika will return to helm the fourth installment of the Thor film series after breathing new life into the franchise with Ragnarok. Officially titled Thor: Love and Thunder, the Taika Waititi film is scheduled to begin production at Fox Studios Australia in 2020 after Shang-Chi finishes filming in the same location.
However, before cameras begin rolling on Thor: Love and Thunder, Variety sources say Taika Waititi will write and direct an untitled project that will be distributed by Fox Searchlight. Details on the story for the new Taika Waititi project are currently unknown, though Fox Searchlight reportedly worked hard to obtain the distribution rights once the filmmaker joined the film.
Production on Taika Waititi’s untitled project has been greenlit for a fall shoot and will be produced by Garrett Basch. Fox Searchlight previously collaborated with Taika Waititi on his satire Jojo Rabbit, which is scheduled to be released on October 18, 2019.
