It seems the Force must once again come into balance. A brand new rumor for The Acolyte teases a Star Wars project focused on the duality of the Jedi and Sith.
Details about The Acolyte have been kept close to the chest, despite the Star Wars project releasing on Disney Plus sometime in 2024. However, a new rumor by Hollywood insider DanielRPK gives fans a peek into what the show has in store, revealing that Amandla Stenberg and Manny Jacinto will play dual roles in the series.
According to the rumor, Amandla Stenberg will play twins, one falling to the influence of the Sith with the other being taken in by the Jedi. Stenberg will take a leading role as the Sith-influenced sister, with The Acolyte following her quest to kill Carrie Anne Moss’ character, who is a Jedi master. While Manny Jacinto will also pull double duty, few details were revealed outside of him playing both a “good and bad” personality for his character.
Star Wars is no stranger to questions of duality, with the war between the Sith and Jedi stemming back to the original trilogy. Even the newest trilogy made some headlines with its use of a force dyad, which is composed of two force users with a unique bond. Given the series’ penchant for fixing incoherent messes after the fact, it’s possible The Acolyte addresses that exact concept!
What to expect from The Acolyte
The Acolyte is set to take place about 100 years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The series follows a former Padawan who reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate crimes, only to confront more sinister forces than expected. Leslye Headland, the co-creator of Netflix’s popular series Russian Doll, is developing the series, which is expected to debut on Disney Plus in 2024.
The Acolyte also stars Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Margarita Levieva. Stenberg, Lee, and Jacinto are said to be playing the lead characters of the upcoming series.
