Is The Batman Part II coming sooner than fans might expect? The film’s co-writer reveals when the long-awaited sequel is expected to begin production.
The Batman made a massive splash in the comic book scene back when it was released in 2022. Yet going on three years from its release date, fans are still patiently waiting for the sequel to enter production. Luckily, the wait for The Batman Part II is getting shorter by the day, with the film’s co-writer Mattson Tomlin confirming the project will enter production sometime in 2025.
“It’s shooting next year,” Tomlin told Screenrant in a recent interview. “We’re gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn’t be higher.”
A pessimist would say that this means The Batman Part II still won’t hit theaters until 2026. However, this also means that the sequel is on schedule to meet that 2026 release window, and won’t be delayed yet again. And with the new DC Universe making its debut just the year before with James Gunn’s Superman, hype for the franchise is certain to be at a fever pitch by the time the project enters production and hits theaters.
The Batman Swings For The Fences With Its Sequel
Given how massive of a success The Batman was, it’d be easy for Mattson Tomlin and Matt Reeves to rest on their laurels when crafting a sequel. However, it seems all of the time spent writing The Batman Part II is time well spent. According to Tomlin, the team is putting their all in trying to make the project something that really matters to audiences across the world.
“It’s the sequel to the first one. But also, Matt [Reeves] is like no other,” Tomlin explained. “In the five years now that I’ve been working with him as closely as I have, I’ve tried to absorb as much as humanly possible from him…”
“..And I’m so grateful for the time that I get to spend with him, because he is a true artist who is operating in a world where sometimes art doesn’t get to flourish, and he’s trying to make something that really matters. So to be able to just be on the ride and be part of that process, it’s pretty unbelievable, pretty tremendous. I’m psyched for the movie.”
It’s good to hear that Mattson Tomlin is as excited for The Batman Part II as fans. Any sequel to The Batman has an almost insurmountable hill to climb when it comes to expectations from fans. DC fans historically aren’t the forgiving type! Yet even with everything working against it, it’s likely to be one massive whirlwind of hype from production until release.
