Jeremy Allen White recently revealed he auditioned for a “Marvel-y” movie, but it seems the meeting didn’t go well. The Bear star also voiced his confusion over the current fascination with the superhero genre.
The Bear has launched its star Jeremy Allen White into being one of the hottest commodities in Hollywood right now, which, of course, means the big companies are going after him with dozens of blockbuster deals. White revealed that he did take a meeting for a “Marvel-y” project, but it ultimately fell through due to his skepticism.
What happened during Jeremy Allen White’s superhero movie meeting
“I had a meeting for a kind of Marvel-y movie, and I had an attitude,” White explained to GQ magazine. “I think I played it all wrong.”
According to White, trouble during the project meeting began when he asked them to justify his inclusion in the project, saying to executives “Tell me about why should I do your movie.” The executives seemingly didn’t respond well to the inquiry. “They were like, ‘F–k you.’ And I was like, ‘Right on.’”
“I am confused at how the pinnacle of an actor’s career has ended up in that place. They get really good filmmakers to do those movies and obviously, they get really good actors to do those movies…I played it the way I wanted to play it.”
Jeremy Allen White’s confusion about the superhero genre is certainly understandable. For as long as movies have been made, there have been actors who prefer blockbuster productions like Marvel and those who prefer smaller dramas. While it’s clear The Bear star is certainly the latter, fans can get a taste of him in spandex in the upcoming film The Iron Claw, which follows the wrestling destiny of the Von Erich family and is produced by A24.
