Could The Boys be making an impact on the DC Universe? The actor for Black Noir believes his character may have inspired James Gunn’s newest Superman film.

A lot of set photos from Superman have found their way online. No part of the DC Universe project has captured fans more than the batch showing a black-clad villain facing off against the Man of Steel. While most fans tried their best to uncover the character’s true identity, others were quick to draw comparisons to The Boys!

Specifically, the villain reminds fans of Black Noir from The Boys. This stems from the character sporting a completely black outfit in Superman, along with goggles that many fans associate with the character. This has led many posters to believe that James Gunn actually took inspiration from the series when crafting the character, and the actor who played him seems to agree!

Black Noir’s Actor Speaks On Superman Villain

With season 4 of The Boys now hitting the airwaves, ScreenRant was able to sit down with Black Noir’s actor Nathan Mitchell to ask him about the character. Mitchell does believe that James Gunn took inspiration from his role as BLack Noir, and considers it an honor if true!

“It was so cool; I was so surprised,” Mitchell explained. “I was like, ‘Wow, are they doing a version of Black Noir in this film?’ and again, I don’t fully know what they’re planning. If I were to guess, I would say it’s a version of Black Noir in this shot that we’ve seen.”

“My take on it is that if you’re gonna make a case for Superman in 2025, you have to make a case for him in the context of the current superhero landscape. That superhero landscape includes The Boys and The Seven. So I think it’s really smart to compare and contrast and make a case for Superman in a world where a team like The Seven might exist.”

“I don’t know for sure, but my guess is perhaps they’re doing something like that, and I’m really honored by the possibility that Black Noir could have been an inspiration for a character in a Superman movie.”

Of course, it’s far from confirmed that James Gunn actually took inspiration from The Boys when creating the villain. However, if he didn’t, the resemblance to Black Noir is truly uncanny. Though given how much Superman seems to focus on hope, it’s not likely the project will take too much inspiration from the raunchy series.
